The Kimberley Heritage Cattle Drive event is set to share, celebrate and respect the heritage of the Indigenous stockmen and women from the past in an attempt to assist, train, cultivate and nurture a new generation of pastoral-based career opportunities for Indigenous men and women into the future.
The cattle drive also has a job to do, the main herd of the cattle drive will travel through the New York Valley area with the added purpose of coacher mustering the smaller herds of shorthorn cattle scattered throughout the valley.
It is undeniable that the heritage surrounding the Australian Drover is a topic in Australian modern history that evokes an innate curiosity of city dwellers and a feeling of almost obligation from those from the bush to walk in the footsteps of our pioneering forefathers.
